DoctorsDirect.com becomes Xoova

By Vivek | August 30th, 2007 at 02:47 pm ET

xoova

Although I haven’t gotten around the reason for the name change, but DoctorsDirect.com that had launched last year and had been written about at StartupSquad.com is now Xoova. For those not following the startup, Xoova is led by Tommy McGloin who had previously headed MapQuest and had raised Series A from Spark Capital worth $2.5 million last year.

Just like bunch of sites coming up quickly out there in the healthcare space, Xoova offers a social+search experience for doctors and patients. Doctors get to post their profiles, while consumers get to search across this information. Xoova claims to have a database of 500k physicians out of which 20K have been updated by doctors till date.

CarePilot(review), FindYourDoc(review), PatientsLikeMe(review), Sermo(review), Vimo, HealthCare, RevolutionHealth are just some of the other startups in this space.

There’s actually a brief explanation of why we’re named Xoova on our blog at http://xoova.typepad.com/xoova_blog/.

Hi! I have used Xoova now for I know at least a year. I am a medical transcriptionist working from my home and I have found this the best site on the web, HOWEVER, for the last month I have not been able to access the site. Has something changed? I desperately would like to know as I really use this a lot. Would someone please reply and try to help me out!

    Thanks, Connie

Xoova appears to have closed their doors. However, http://www.doctor.com just launched with many of the same features Xoova had along with some new ones I haven’t seen anywhere else. It’s taken over as my medical homepage and is definitely worth checking out. It looks like they’re regularly adding new features as well.
