FunAdvice with new looks; Takes on Yahoo Answers

Writing about FunAdvice has been on my todo list for for real long. While I don’t really have a reason for that, but now have a real reason to talk about it. Over the last weekend the Forest Hills, NY based startup got a long overdue new look that would for sure give competition to Yahoo Answers.

For those of you who haven’t tried out FunAdvice, the startup operates in the QandA space from where Google exited few months back. Other notable players are Answerbag(bought by Demand Media for $5 million), Sodahead(review)(not directly competing), and Yedda(review).

According to stats from Quantcast.com Funadvice has been growing fast this year and now stands at the 3rd spot in QA space, behind Yahoo Answers & Answerbag. The startup claims to be nearing first 1 million plus unique visitors this month.

Anyway coming back to features - besides the new looks, FunAdvice has also launched a celebrity advisor feature. Yahoo Answers also has had featured questions from many celebrities, however, they’ve never had a featured celebrity who was there to help answer questions. FunAdvice featured celebrity will be more interactive on that account, with added ability for users to get promoted to advisors when they’ve been ranked highly by other users.
