Ah! Facebook Fund! Anyone remembers RSS Fund?

Okay, I don’t want to compare 2 unrelated entities but they do have similar opportunistic investing models - Announced almost 2 years back, RSS Investors was supposed to invest $100 million into purely RSS and social media based startups. Over time it was discovered that RSS Investors was able to raise only $20 million of the projected $100 million. One of the better known investments made was worth $9 million into Attensa. Not sure what happened after that.
This time around, widgets are hot and everyone wants to throw money and make a quick deal. Be it WidgetBox with their $1000 or Google with their $100K, developers certainly seem to have good number of options. And now Bay Partners is looking to make investments in the range of $25,000 to $250,000 into startups developing Facebook apps. Since the market is big enough and there is an elephant to ride on, there are definitely chances for few startups to get ride of their life. Still, there are lot of other factors than just the opportunity at hand to influence the outcome.
