SitePal or BubbleGuru? Virtual vs Real?

By Vivek | July 5th, 2007 at 03:33 pm ET

Sausalito, CA based BubbleGuru is looking to attract the crowd that doesn’t know what is in. Launched in public beta last month, BubbleGuru offers an online application service that enables anyone to quickly create and add a personalized video messages on their site. End result is a video player that has the ability to simply float above any webpage.

The service comes either for a fee or for a monthly fee depending on how many messages you can create, length of the message,….

Pricing and features aside, how many users will be looking to do just that - talking into a webcam and putting it on a website. Especially when you have services like Sitepal/Voki, Virtuoz/Skaaz, or one of the more fun services Gizmoz that let you easily add voice to an avatar and place the embed code on a site you want.

I don’t have a website or blog just yet, but if I did, I would rather address my users then to put a silly cartoon avatar on my site. But hey, that’s just me.

I took a look at the bubble site…and I really like the way they float over the page and then disappear when they are done.

Also, did you see the way you can update the video message at any time…that’s pretty cool too.

Being deaf, and reading plenty of other deaf blogs, it becomes immediately evident that being able to see the actual person as s/he signs (rather than uses voice) is so much more efficient. I doubt avatars have reached a point where they can sign fluently, grin. Plus, it’s so nice to have the bubble float with you as you scroll down the page …
