uPlayMe does revision 2 @ Facebook

Music, music recommendations, top songs…. some of the top buzzwords that can deliver users in thousands over at Facebook. While iLike is enjoying all the spotlight while being on the top of the music scene over there, few of the other smaller players are going in for take 2 to offer more features and grab more users. New York City based uPlayMe is one of them that launched a new release of it’s Facebook app today offering additional features then with what it had started off as a Facebook launch partner.
New features include an improved look where you can easily switch between views from your song lists, to your friends’ song lists, to the FB community’s song lists. The app now also comes with a a new refresh button that let’s you update your songs from within the application itself. Best feature is ability to view Facebook top 10 songs Facebook users are listening to any moment.
You need to remember that in order for uPlayMe to list the songs you are listening to, you have to download it’s PC app that syncs with your uPlayMe account. As for mac users, they will get a client by tomorrow.
While it is good to see that the startup is making rapid changes to the app, it still has quite a bit of catching up to do especially in terms of social side of feature set and also the ability to play music clips online. In fact, it would have been easier for uPlayMe to implement the latter part since it’s co-founder, Dan Pelson, is Senior Vice President at Warner Music Group. Again, we are just 1 month into the Facebook platform launch and there will be lots of opportunity for uPlayMe to prove itself.

We appreciate that the social features built into the Facebook version of our application aren%u2019t as strong as the features users get from our full application. We designed our full app first and foremost to run on your desktop. The web-app used inside Facebook offers just a subset of the features available in the full desktop application. I%u2019m confident that you will find the social features of the desktop version far more compelling, such as the ability to be presented with matches (other people who are listening to the same song as you at the same time) and to chat with those people or interact with them through other social networks uPlayMe is integrated with, like MySpace. Users have to download the full uPlayMe application to use the features that make uPlayMe a truly social application for making new friends and discovering new digital entertainment, and it is definitely worth the download!
Thanks again for the review, and we look forward to proving you right about the grand opportunities the future holds for uPlayMe.

[…] I had written about uPlayme around couple of months back when it did a new release of it’s Facebook app. Currently they have 5,816 users to talk about, as compared to 6.5 million for uPlayme. That’s a lot of catching up to do. The lower number might be attributed to uPlayme’s requirement to download it’s desktop/mac app to deliver the best features in store. According to the comments left by uPlayme team member Keith Gould, they will be sticking to the desktop strategy in the longer to deliver better social features. Hope that strategy works out.
