Mister-Wong @ US version screenshots

By Vivek | June 25th, 2007 at 02:11 pm ET

German bookmarking site Mister Wong has launched closed beta of it’s US version. I had written about this upcoming launch last month when the startup had initially disclosed it’s plan for the Americas. Below are some screenshots that I grabbed from the app. While most of the core-functionality seems to be up to the standards, the front-page needs dynamic refresh that I hope would be delivered before the launch.

Mister Wong strategy of offering the localized version of it’s bookmarking platform has been paying off in the recent times. The startup is claiming that it is getting more than 2 million visitors (Google Analytics) each month in Europe alone. Besides being in Europe, Mister Wong’s localized portals have been launched in Russian, Chinese, French, and Spanish. While the numbers look impressive, and traffic stats show it above the likes of Furl, Blinklist and Ma.gnolia, the startup is still trailing Yahoo owned del.icio.us.

All said and done, social bookmarking is nothing new in US and Mister Wong will have a hard time justifying itself to the existing users out here. Again their initial target would be to grab the new and fringe users to get max piece of the big pie, making it’s worldwide numbers grow bigger.

I like that (multilingual) strategy! I like it so much, I did just that with Simpy a long time ago. Simpy supports about 10 different languages (that is, it is available in that many distinct languages) and has had this support for over a year, or so. The full list of languages supported is here:

And here is how to get your language going:
