Ad deal frenzy continues; Microsoft gets aQuantive

It’s amazing to watch how software development companies are trying really really hard to be advertising companies. Although no one is sure how this concept would pan out in the longer run, Microsoft had placed it’s bets on aQuantive by agreeing to the company for $6 billion. Microsoft plans to “provide the advertising industry with a world class, Internet-wide advertising platform, as well as a set of tools and services that help its constituents generate the highest possible return on their advertising investments.” Not sure how much of that would come true given the relative inexperience of Microsoft in the advertising space as compared to Google.

Don’t forget the WPP purchase of 24/7 this past week. With WPP connections in the advetising world they might be able to really make a strong move forward. MSN and Google might get bogged down in the fine details while WPP forges ahead.
