Blogs get authority on Technorati

By Vivek | May 5th, 2007 at 06:46 pm ET

The way blogs are displayed on Technorati got an update yesterday with the addition of Technorati Authority. As Dorion@Technorati explains:

update changed the earlier references of “N blogs link here” and “X links from Y blogs” with the single Technorati Authority number.

Technorati Authority is the number of blogs linking to a website in the last six months. The higher the number, the more Technorati Authority the blog has.

So the number of linkbacks you are actually getting is hidden from your default view.

Personally I am not I favor of linkbacks in news world when majority of the linkbacks are from spam blogs. Forget about spam blogs, what about linkbacks from blogs that themselves have 0 linkbacks. Both these issues aside, what about the linkbacks from people quoting someone for just the heck of quoting and building human-made spam blog.

Authority or not, just get me the real content guys. I don’t care who is on the top, but what I know is that lot of time dependent good content is hidden out there.

Aside from that, aren’t they playing too close to the Google PageRank patent out here. I am not too sure about that.
