ThemBid – bidding goes local

By Vivek Puri

You know what, I am tired of writing about all the local search sites that mashup social networking with local search to supposedly connect you to the right business faster. While you are find ample reviews for restaurants on such local search sites, for rest of them reviews are hard to come by. Now I can’t really stop writing about these regular ideas, but anything that goes beyond these regulars is always interests me. ThemBid is one such startup launching at Web20 Expo that wants local businesses to bid for your work instead of you going out searching for one. Basically, you go onto ThemBid.com and post your requests, and businesses come and bid for your work. From there on rating seals the deal for the delivering party. You can say a setup similar to Elance(did I tell you Elance marketplace is hopeless?) but for getting bids from local businesses. ThemBid was co-founded by Elmer Thomas and couple of this friends. Currently the service will take bids for jobs in Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Orange County, Palm Springs, and Bay Area. Future plans? Make Fatwallet local. Will see how that one goes. Right now ThemBid needs work on UI and features.
