By Vivek | April 11th, 2007 at 10:56 am ET

Telsima, the maker of WiMax-based broadband wireless technology, today announced closing of it’s Series D round of funding in which it raised $50 million. Found in year 2000, Telsima has till date raised $80 million. On the whole, Telsima’s backers now include NewPath Ventures, NEA, CMEA Ventures, JAFCO, Intel Capital and other unnamed strategic investors. So where will the big money go? Telsima’s expansion into India and Eastern Europe. Telsima wants to make it’s base stations for mobile services and subscriber station systems and network management software to India and while also planning to go for Central and Eastern Europe. Funding news aside, will WiMax be able to save India from the cable/DSL mess that has hardly penetrated the market beyond the bigger areas? Will watch how this one rolls out.

Other WiMax deals aggregated by TheDeal.com, include $20 million Series E for Richardson, Texas-based telecom equipment company Ceterus Networks Inc, $40 million Series D for WiMax semiconductor company Beceem Communications, $11 million Series A for DigitalBridge Communications Corp, and $7.5 million round for test equipment startup Azimuth Systems.
