With new social networks launching almost everyday, it is overwhelming to report on each of them. Still we will take a look at Flukiest ’cause I think it deserves a mention. Flukiest, which has been under development since 2005, officially opened its doors earlier this month. Flukiest is led by the former lead developer of MySpace, Duc Chau. Duc has actually been the only full-time developer of the complete social networking platform at Flukiest. I would say the is a quite a bit of development effort for one man team.
Key differentiation point for Flukiest is that the Duc built the technology to be a platform. As a result of being a platform, the technology can be used or licensed to roll out niche communities extremely quickly. The reason for going in this direction is that Flukiest was initially developed with intentions to roll out a number of niche communities as well as license the technology to groups/companies looking to establish a much more sticky online presence with social networking. That was 2005. What Flukiest has now evolved into is a very robust social networking platform with white label features hidden. Instead it provides almost all the user targeted SNing features that you might expect from a startup to compete effectively in the over crowded social networking play. From the features PoV you can make friends, upload photos, videos, import contacts from you Gmail/yahoo/Hotmail accounts automatically, browse profiles, customize profile using the profile generator, blog, write reviews……….. Since Duc’s past experience was at MySpace, he trying to push the Music section heavily. Besides all this, Flukiest provides embed codes for some really cool Image Walls in a similar manner to what Slide.com does.
As part of future plans, Duc is working on some smart new features including building out the administration portion of the platform, making it easier for people who license the platform to administer it such as (managing users, media, etc…). With over 250K media files and almost 40K users Flukiest is just starting to get onto the SN scene. Will Flukiest be able to catch the imagination of users in face to tough competition has to be seen.
