Oodle gets $11 million in funding

Oodle, the local local classifieds search engine has raised $11 million in funding. The funding round was participated by new investor JAFCO Ventures as well as from existing investors Greylock Partners and Redpoint Ventures.

Launched almost 2 years back, Oodle is one of the fastest growing classified companies in US. Oodle claims to have more than 20 million listings from more than 75,000 sources. That aside Oodle has setup partnerships with numerous companies including ValueClick, Local.com, New Corp to provide wider coverage for the classified listings of its users.

The reason being that an entirely new way of creating and distributing classifieds can only succeed if people are frustrated with the existing options. That does not seem to be the case with majority of users using Craigslist or Oodle or vFlyer or one of the likes. Interface for few of them might suck, but who cares till the supply-demand cycle works efficiently and stuff is bought/sold without paying a dime to the middleman.
