Jaxtr widget calling service open to public

Jaxtr today launched public beta for its widget based calling service. Jaxtr had been operating in private beta mode for past few months since its launch in December 2006. Jaxtr widget lets users be contacted on their phone without the other party getting to know the called number. You just need to put the widget on your blog/site/email signature and the calling party can enter his/her number to get connected via the Jaxtr widget.
Once you signup for the service, you can add upto 3 of your phone numbers and Jaxtr will direct the calls to one of the selected. If you don’t want to take calls directly you can enable the widget to send all the calls to your voicemail or let the callers send a text message instead. Currently the service provides unlimited voicemails, and also unlimited calls to other Jaxtr users worldwide. As for incoming calls to your phone, you get 100 minutes free from Jaxtr after which you might be required to pay for additional minutes. As it seems right now, Jaxtr still need to work out that part. Jaxtr had recently launched a new feature VoiceBlast that lets users record voice greetings for their widget. With the initial launch Jaxtr users can receive calls from callers in over 200 countries.
One of the coolest features of the service kicks in when you want to call the same friend again. First time you call, Jaxtr gives you a call back. After that call you can save the private number displayed on your phone and use it next time to call your friend again. So the difference is that you don’t really need to be near a computer to talk to your friend the second time. However one limitation around this setup is that you need to in one of the 29 countries where Jaxtr has a local number. Still this does mean free long distance calling within these 29 countries.
Jaxtr calling might be too direct for getting 2 unknown people to connect for the first time. Wambo chat widget suits those needs better. Getting to call known people and your friends for free is the right usage for Jaxtr.
