Streakr - search across social networks
By Vivek | March 15th, 2007 at 03:45 pm ET
Streakr has shown up on the social networking scene so silently that it almost got missed. Well the stealthiness is over and from the initial impression we know that Streakr offers search across social networking sites and also enables users to join Streakr’s own social network. Streakr lets you do a keyword search across MySpace, Bebo, Hi5, and Facebook. Any search result you get, Streakr loads the page in a iFrame instead of redirecting you to the site. This feature can come handy if you want to run multiple searches. Streakr has options for sharing and rating of sites you come across. As usual number of pages aggregated and relevancy of results will play a big role in success of any such feature. Streakr also has a toolbar that can get you going faster with your searches. As for your own profile on Streakr the site provides options to customize your profile page with templating and colors. Still it lags far behind in terms of what other platforms are delivering right now.
On the whole only interesting part of the service is being able to search across networks. Wink is another startup offering similar search capabilities.

[…] Vivek, over at Startup Squad, recently discovered a new social network and social networking meta search engine, Streakr. The main URL still says the site is coming soon. The new engine lets you search the profiles on the major networks (MySpace, Hi5, Bebo, and Facebook) as well at it’s own social network. It appears to be a hook to draw people into their main service, like Wink did when they launched their own profile search and Rapleaf had with UpScoop. Profile management tool ProfileLinker also has a search engine. […]

[…] However, it seems that Streakr has now quietly debuted, offering a slick-looking way to browse social networking pages using an iFrame. You can browse Bebo, MySpace, hi5 and Facebook in a StumbleUpon-like setup, plus lots of other site genres. […]

This site has a good design and is aesthetically pleasing. I%u2019ve been playing around with it and it%u2019s easy to use. No site launches with all their functionality, I%u2019m interested to see what Streakr adds to this site in the coming months. Worth trying now and one to watch closely.
