Virb today quietly launched its social platform that covers music, video, and networking spaces all at one place. Since Virb is developed by guys from PureVolume you will find lots of focus on music and related personalization. Right now I am going through all the cool features developed at Virb and just amazed at the hard put in by the team to develop such a high quality platform. From the very start Virb has most of the major functionality under wraps – video uploads, album creation/photo uploads, blogging, layout customization, relationship tags, custom modules, profile and personal music players.
Best part i like is the ability to view your profile background customizations in real time. And this feature goes a step further with uses having the ability to remove customization from someone elses profile if they don’t like it. Virb is planning to build further on this by enabling users to save multiple profile layouts in case they feel like using them again. To deliver the best customer experience, Virb offers number of nifty features. Search is one of them. Besides the regular search anything-to-everything option, users have number of other options available that let them search specifically for people, music, vidoes, groups, and photos. Also consider the case when you are viewing a video. Up near the right end of the video they have placed a small lights out button, which if clicked on makes entire screen go dark to let users focus on the video instead of getting lost in comments and stuff.
As i mentioned above, Virb seems to place focus on music part of the service. To deliver a personilized service, Virb has made available VirbTunes as part of the service which can be downloaded and installed as software plugin for iTunes and will track songs playing on user machine. Virb takes this to display Recent Songs, Top Artists, Top Songs and Top Albums in user profile, and also use it to drive personalized music recommendations like concerts and more to its users.
There is lots more Virb than i can put down right now. Go ahead and give it a try. While you are there, add StartupSquad to your network.

[...] Streakr has shown up on the social networking scene so silently that it almost got missed. Well the stealthiness is over and from the initial impression we know that Streakr offers search across social networking sites and also enables users to join Streakr’s own social network. Streakr lets you do a keyword search across MySpace, Bebo, Hi5, and Facebook. Any search result you get, Streakr loads the page in a iFrame instead of redirecting you to the site. This feature can come handy if you want to run multiple searches. Streakr has options for sharing and rating of sites you come across. As usual number of pages aggregated and relevancy of results will play a big role in success of any such feature. Streakr also has a toolbar that can get you going faster with your searches. As for your own profile on Streakr the site provides options to customize your profile page with templating and colors. Still it lags far behind in terms of what other platforms are delivering right now. [...]
