PatientsLikeMe: Health-care social network gets funded

By Vivek | February 5th, 2007 at 05:09 pm ET

PatientsLikeMe, the social networking platform for patients, doctors, researchers, organizations, and companies, has raised $5 million Series A round of funding led by Collaborative Seed and Growth Partners, LLC with participation from private equity fund Invus, LP. Founded in 2004 by three MIT engineers PatientsLikeMe had raised seed capital from CommerceNet and Omidyar Network. PatientsLikeMe enables patients to add/update information related to disease symptoms, treatments through which users can network with people having similar symptoms or taking similar treatments. I like the strategy of PatientsLikeMe platform focusing more towards patients having ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), while also making it extensible to cover other diseases. Complete with a Answers Network, Groups, the community effect seems to be on roll at PatientsLikeMe.

Other upcoming heath care social network I have covered include Sermo and MedBillManager.
