Callwave gets all widgety

By Vivek | January 25th, 2007 at 05:06 pm ET

Callwave, the Santa Barbara, California based voice application provider, has launched couple of really cool widgets for Yahoo Widget Engine and Apple Dashboard. Callwave’s voicemail widget delivers mobile voicemail right to your PC/mac based widget engine. As soon as the caller leaves you a message, the widget on your PC/mac updates with complete details about the caller, voicemail duration, and the ability to listen to the messages on your machine. Besides this, you can also enable the service to send information related to all the voicemails to your email account(with the voicemails as attachments) or get SMSed to your mobile. If you miss both you can always check you voicemail the regular way. Callwave has also developed a web counter part for this service. For all the calls you receive, the incoming contact numbers get added to your online account from where you can send text messages or do a click to call if you feel lazy dialing the number. Best part - Basic service is free, while Pro comes for $9.95/month that can get you Call Screening and Premium toll-free telephone support. Should come really handy if you put Jaxtr widget on your blog.

Another of Callwave widget I discovered today lets you send text messages to mobile phones anywhere in the world right from your PC/mac. I am not sure if it will really work everywhere in the world but works at least for US. Again a very intuitive and free application that gives you the ability to set your email address as reply-to address. The strange part is that the widget is not listed directly under Callwave products. Maybe they are still testing it out.

From my PoV, both widgets are a must use.

Will they charge for international SMS’s? I’m an American living in the Netherlands so I’m curious… they say its free in the states, but what about other places?

[…] Actually reQall goes a step further than just simply recording and converting of voice to text. The system smartly interprets your voice commands to save meeting, and tasks. So, you can create a voice note and in the end add “Save as Meeting for tomorrow 8 AM”, and you will find the meeting added to your reQall calendar. Now the only thing I would like get access to is reQall API to fetch my meetings schedule and feed it into Google Calendar using Teqlo. Yahoo/Goolge gadget/widget like Callwave would also help. […]

[…] Make that 5! That is what Callwave has to say at the Voice-Text services party. Okay coming to the real point, Callwave is planning to launch a new service Vtxt that will turn your voicemail into text. This makes all  messages readable, searchable and storable. How? All of these text messages are sent to your email, Yahoo/Dashboard/Vista widgets. […]

[…] Just like everyone I am also a victim of this arrangement between mobile careers that makes your calls end up on a server somewhere instead of your phone. Now advantage in blogging about technology and new products is that you get to play with each of them and eventually find some of them really useful. So few weeks back I started using Callwave to handle my voicemail service that delivers all my voicemails to me via email and a Yahoo widget. Besides the voicemail piece, Callwave also catches your missed calls. This is where the magic happened with me few days back. Callwave not only catches the missed calls for the people you ignored but also those calls for which your phone never rings. Since I use Blackberry and get my emails pushed to my mobile, suddenly I found myself getting emailed about few missed calls. I looked at my call log and there was no trace of those calls. You can very well guess what was happening out there. These are calls that were supposed to reach my phone, but get routed midway to a Cingular server. Strange but true. […]
