Wetpaint secures $9.5 million funding

By Vivek Puri

Wetpaint, the Seattle based consumer-friendly SaaS Wiki startup, will announce today that it has received $9.5 million in Series B funding. This funding round was led by Accel Partners, and was also participated by the existing investors Trinity Ventures and Frazier Technology Ventures. Previously Wetpaint had raised $5.25 million in Series A round of funding in October 2005 from Trinity Ventures and Frazier Technology Ventures. Wetpaint plans to use the additional capital to enhance and to market the Wiki platform to the growing number of consumers who want to collaborate and generate content online.

Wetpaint has established itself nicely since its launch in June 2006. Wetpaint now boasts of more than 150,000 user-created community sites built using its Wiki based platform that have received over 2.5 million user contributions. Consumer companies including AOL, ABC, CBS have setup creative community sites using the Wetpaint Wiki platform.

Wetpaint users and communities have complete control over the way their Wiki can be customized and edited. Users can host Wetpaint on their custom domains or continue hosting on one of the Wetpaint’s subdomain. Wetpaint’s content editing, sharing, subscription, and moderation features are best in the class which makes it a very user friendly community editing tool that I have come across.
