MomJunction gets funded; Grouptivity Launches

By Vivek Puri

MomJunction gets funded: Another vertical social networking site, MomJunction.com, has secured $1.5 million in funding from PointRoll, Inc. CEO Christopher Saridakis and founder Jules Gardner, and entrepreneur Pat Croce. MJ is claiming to add unique value by enabling moms to build a network of trust with other MJ members to share knowledge, tips, and questions. I thought all social networks aim to do that. Anyway, MJ has its hands full in terms of competitors that include CafeMom, Maya’s Mom, Famster, MothersClick………

Grouptivity Launches: SocialMail, about which I had written before, has changed its name to Grouptivity and officially launches today. Grouptivity is another service, in this case for ordinary users, that tries to bring the power of discussion boards, event management and much more to your email network. Checkout the site at Grouptivity.com

[...] Mumspace: Another mommy oriented social network that launched last week. Seems to be using WordPress to drive its backend. Offers ability to choose from alternative themes, adding people to your network,  creating photo albums, and more of the expected  features from a socialnet. Though road for the startup since number of players have already entered this space last year including MomJunction, CafeMom, Maya’s Mom, Famster, MothersClick.  [...]

  3. StartupSquad » Blog Archive » Sodahead’s social polling looks promising Says:

[...] Sodahead went ahead with the public launch of its social polling platform last week. From the initial looks I think Sodahead can turn be pretty addictive site. Idea is not new but comes with a twist as compared to what we already have in market. Vizu does distributed polling and surveys, while Grouptivity and CircleUp enable group collaboration and questionnaires in private groups. But none of these work out in the open where users in a social network can put up polls and get responses and comments from everyone on the community. Identifying this sweet spot can only come from experienced social networking guys. As it turns out Sodahead was founded last year by former MySpace execs Jason Feffer and Michael ?. To start with Sodahead had received $4.25 million in funding from Mohr Davidow Ventures, a big enough round to keep their small but smart group up and running for a while. [...]
