Mojeo provides easier mobile local search
By Vivek | November 13th, 2006 at 04:42 pm ET
Mojeo is mobile based service that enables easier search and sharing of local services. Mojeo which was created by Dave Sutter and Mike Prince , demo’ed earlier this month at the Startupcamp. Taking the location information from your mobile phone, Mojeo uses it provide local results from sites like Google Local, Yahoo Local, Yelp, Upcoming, and more.
To use Mojeo you can select a list of websites, at mobeo.mobi on your mobile, that provide location aware data. So your list can have sites like Weather.com, Yelp.com, Fandango.com, and Upcoming.com, results for which are dependent upon your location. Next time you want to view information from any of these sites, Mojeo automatically detects your zip to enable quicker search. Besides this, Mojeo also checks for updates from the sites on your list so that you don’t have to browse the site and realize no updates are available. If the site has new information Mojeo displays a small result next to each website. Consider the case when you have Fandango in your site list. A link under Fandago in your list, will indicate the number of new movies based on your location. You can do the same with Upcoming to stay updated with the upcoming events near you. If you want to browse the same websites everyday you can add save the list which will get associated either with your phone number of your email address. Mojeo also provides the ability to modify/edit, and share the lists.
Only potential issue with the service is that it requires GPS built into your mobile phone to get your location. So if you bring up Mojeo on your mobile and it says your location is Ontario, Canada(that is what I got), it means you don’t have GPS on your mobile. In that case you will manually have to enter the location information into your Mojeo account.
For monetizing it’s services, Mojeo adds an advertisement(using Admob) to the top of your website list every time you browse your list. As for competing services, if you look at the overall click count between 4info.net’s mobile application and Mojeo’s web app, Mojeo does save you few clicks when you want to reach the right content without setting up your location.
