By Vivek Puri

Zvents, provider of local events information and search, announced today that is has secured $7 million in series A financing led by VantagePoint Venture Partners. Existing investors Red Rock Ventures and NetService Ventures Group also participated in this round. With the new funding round Zvents will be looking to expand to other metropolitan areas in US.

Zvents was co-founded by Ethan Stock and Tyler Kovacs last year and ever since worked on the development of their Zvents Media Platform. Zvents service platform helps provide next generation local search and targeted advertising capabilities to web, print, broadcasting, and other vertical interest sites. Zvents has integrated the platform with the San Jose Mercury News last July. Since than Zvents has also integrated the service with the Denver Post, Miami Herald, and Contra Costa Times. Forthcoming 2006 metro launches include Boston and greater Los Angeles.

In future Zvents will be launching Zvents Network Calendar that will enable event organizers to promote their events. Zvents Network Calendar will be a widget based free interactive event calendar that can be easily added to web sites. Zvents will also be working on automatically distributing event information to local Zvents media partners so that event information appears in their online Event Calendar. This widget framework will also make it easier to edit, update, and propagate event information in real-time.

  1. StartupSquad » Blog Archive » Updates for Google, Microsoft, Etsy Says:

[...] Google Local Event Search: Google Calendar team launched a new feature that enables users to search local events added by others and additional listing aggregated from it’s partners. You can quickly search for events by event name or category, city, or date. Results show up in the Google calendar and you can switch between various views including a list view. I am not sure for what radius Google searches for events when you search by city. Other players in this area include Zvents, and Eventful, both of which had closed new funding rounds recently. [...]

  2. StartupSquad » Blog Archive » HeyLetsGo had raised $3.5 million Says:

[...] Just checked on HeyLetsGo – “2767 people active today”. Not a cool number for $3.5 million in funding that HeyLetsGo had received from General Catalyst Partners and Highland Capital Partners. Going through atleast 1 site redesign, and expansion onto 2 more cities including New York and San Francisco, the event aggregation and networking startup has yet to get traction from the community. With Eventful, Meetup, Zvents offering similar platforms getting far ahead in the event mashup game, HeyLetsGo has lot of catching up to do. [...]

  3. StartupSquad » Blog Archive » Attendio tries event search(seriously) Says:

[...] Anyway, we will soon know whether Attendio is just another search engine to forget or can rise above that. What do we already have in the market? – Zvents, Eventful, Upcoming, to name a few. [...]

  4. StartupSquad » Blog Archive » Involver readies personalized event search Says:

[...] Coming back to event search, I think it is another of those embattled areas which has too many startups chasing not that big amount of money. Zvents, Eventful, Meetup, Upcoming, HeyletsGo, Attendio, Minglenow…….. are just some of them. Some of these funded while others in process but none of them in sight of a MySpace+- exit even though the idea has been hanging on for as long. I would like to see how Involver defines its direction. [...]
