eBuddy, Netherlands based provider of web-based messaging service, today announced that it has secured EUR5 million in its series A round of funding lead by Lowland Capital Partners. eBuddy service enables users to chat with their AOL, MSN, and Yahoo buddies using an Ajax based interface.

eBuddy which has been around since 2003 enables chat on web as well as mobile without need to install a IM client. eBuddy claims to have over 35 million users worldwide, including 4 million mobile users. Out of these 3.5 million users are based in the United Kingdom. Earlier in June, eBuddy had re-launched its service and has been sudden jump in the user base. Meebo, competitor to eBuddy which had started its server last year, has only half million registered users.

Unlike Meebo, eBuddy has been monitizing it’s traffic by placing advertisements on the site.
