Nanolearning wants to enable people to create and consume learning material quickly and easily. Using Nanolearning technology, people can upload content which is converted into flash format movie that can be accessed by anyone. Nanolearning is founded by Bryan Menell and is based out of Austin, TX. Bryan had previously co-founded Perficient, which delivers business-driven technology solutions.
Nanolearning calls these flash based learning movies created out of user content as ‘Nanolist’. Users can register at Nanolearning and start creating Nanolists using a WYSIWYG interface. Nanolearning provides few basic templates like Information Presentation, Flash Movie, Text Hot Spot, and Multiple Choice, which can be used to create professional looking learning material quickly. Each nanolist can contain multiple pages which can have text, image, movie files, and audio files.
Once you save you learning material, Nanolearning instantly converts the documents into a flash movie. When you are ready to share the nanolist with the world, you just need to hit the publish button to make it available for viewing to other users. Nanolists can be edited even after they have been published and the changes will be reflected as soon as you save the list.
Users can search and view nanolists from the ‘Explore’ tab of Nanolearning. Users can leave feedback and rating after viewing a nanolist. Nanolearning also provides RSS feeds for nanolist so that users get informed whenever a list gets updated. To make the application appeal to a wider user base, Nanolearning is working on making its application multi-lingual and currently supports English and Portuguese.
Right now Nanolearning site does need lot of work to make it more appealing and intuitive for everyone. In my talk with Bryan he mentioned that till now they had been working hard on developing the technology and making the back-end scalable, which is not apparent if you go by the interface. In future they will be working on front-end features like user being able to set licenses (Create commons,…), tag, and charge for nanolist they create. Nanolearning team is also working on providing sub-domains for organizations(startupsquad.nanolearning.com) integrated with LDAP authentication which can be used to create and host company specific learning material.
I think Nanolearning has great potential especially in corporate sector where companies need to provide learning material to comply with various regulations from SEC, FDA….. Also it will be great if Nanolearning enables fetching of content from Microsoft Office docs, Writely, and EditGrid.com into nanolists.

[...] With integration already in place with Pageflakes and WordPress.com, I would expect Splashcast buzz spreading around quickly. In case you want to go beyond standard Widgetbox stats, Splashcast comes with its own stats/analytics service to get you the viewer-ship stats for your Shows, Channels, and players. Splashcast had started off as QMind couple of years back and raised $1.3 million for an enterprise e-learning product they were planning to offer(sounds something like Nanolearning - where are they headed now???). Since consumer and social media is the buzzword, they quickly abandoned their enterprise plans to target the faster moving user base. [...]
