Protectmyphotos - cheap and best data backup option

Protectmyphotos

I had been digging around for cheap and reliable online storage option for quite sometime now without much success. Streamload, XDrive, Box.net are all good but each of them does not have the right pricing and features I was looking for. Last week I stumbled across the nice review for Protectmyphotos from PhotoNewsToday. Protectmyphotos provides the right combination with 25GB of disk space for only $39.95/year. I think this is one of the cheapest options I have come across till now.

Protectmyphotos initially started off as photo backup service but now also handles backup of Office, Financial(Quickbook…), and Music(wav..) files. To backup your files you need to install the Protectmyphotos client on your machine and either let is auto-discover your photos or you can set the folders you want to backup. After that Protectmyphotos client silently backups your photos and files when you machine is idle. Protectmyphotos also takes care of versioning by detecting any changes to your files and automatically backing up and protecting your new additions.

Protectmyphotos has a cool online file viewer and is also working on a phone viewer that will work on most of the cell phones. The online viewer lays out the exact directory structure as it is on your computer and also shows each machine from where you backed up the data. You can also easily restore your photos in case your old ThinkPad or Dell explodes. Protectmyphotos seems to have taken quite a few measures to safeguard your data in regards to Physical, Network, and Data security. Protectmyphotos has 2 datacenters out which the main data center is located in St Louis, Missouri and backup datacenter is in Boulder, Colorado. Also all communication with their server is SSL encrypted for added protection.

All in all Protectmyphotos is a good data backup solution for individual users.

Hey, take a look at a professional application called IBackup for Windows. Using this you can easily backup and restore all your important files and folders. Just select any type of files you want to backup and allow the application to backup them up immediately or schedule the backup for a future date, time and frequency of your own choice. Then set the options so that you will get an email or desktop notification on the status of backup tasks you have scheduled.

Securely store your photos and access them from anywhere. View them as thumbnails or as an animated slide show using Media Gallery feature. If you have image files in a folder, Web-Manager, the browser-based application, automatically senses the presence of these images and displays the ‘Media Gallery’ option for you. You can view all the images stored in a particular folder with the help of an automated slide show. You will find this useful for presentation of your business documents/ images. You can even share an entire folder containing the images with your friends and family. Fort this you have create sharable links and email them to your friends.

There is a `Private Share’ feature in IBackup that allows you to share selected data instantly with another IBackup user. The private share feature can be disabled at anytime you wish. Also try IBackup Professional. Encryption is based on a user-defined key so that the data stored on IBackup Professional servers cannot be decrypted by anybody other than you. IBackup Professional allows you to restore up to 30 prior versions including the most recent version of the data files.

Protectmyphotos has gone off the air. Cannot get any response by email. Site has been down for at least 3 days. It worked great while it lasted.

You guys might wanna check out Carbonite. I switched from protectmyphotos to Carbonite a little while ago and I love it. I switched because carbonite offers unlimited backup and 25GB wasnt enough space for all my stuff.Carbonite is a cheap effective tool and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to find a new method of online backup.
