San Diego based Eventful has secured $7.5 million in second round of funding lead by Omidyar Network, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and Esther Dyson. Eventful provides a platform for users to find and share events with their family and contacts, search for events and create campaigns for needed events. Eventful had closed the first round in March 2005, securing $2.1 million led by Draper Fisher Jurvetson. Eventful, founded in January 2004 by eBay veteran Brian Dear, was earlier known as EVDB.

Eventful indexes events from US, UK, Canada, Austria, Ireland, Italy, Australia, Germany, India, Netherlands, and France. Users can browse events from a wide range of categories according to your location. Events can also be searched for using venue tags like “livehouse” or “bookstore”,… Users can also search/browse public event calendars. Private or public groups can be created or users can join existing interest groups. Events can also be searched for according to performers. Users can subscribe to Events and calendars that can be synced to Outlook, Google Calendar, and Rabble.

The feature i liked the most from Eventful is that users can demand events for a performer. Once the demand reaches critical mass, Eventful will notify the performer of user Demands and get a response. After that users and performer can plan out further details about the event.

Eventful is a feature packed site and has much more to it than I can discuss here. Zvents.com is a similar site that primarily indexes San Francisco Bay Area events.
